The BikeSafe® program is an injury prevention program that operates out of KidZ Neuroscience Center at The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis with a focus on children. BikeSafe has a three part mission:
About the Bike Stations
BikeSafe will be at the event to lead fun, bike safety stations that teach children important skills to improve their safety knowledge when they ride. Before the ride, children will learn how to perform a pre-ride check on their bike to make sure everything is working properly and the importance of proper helmet fitting.
BikeSafe will be providing safety stations on each Kids Ride route, covering different skills to help improve your child’s safety on a bike. The first station is “Start, Stop, & Power pedal” which teaches children how to safely navigate intersections on their bike. “Scanning and Signalling” is the next basic station that teaches a child how to signal and scan over their shoulder while riding their bike. This is an important station that improves a biker’s predictability on the road and allows motorists see where a rider wants to go. The “Rock Dodge” exercise teaches children how to perform a simple technique which will allow them to safely navigate past an obstacle on the road. Finally, the “Control and Maneuver” station helps teach children how to safely and confidently handle a bicycle through a series of turns and twists.
